This interactive program was designed to assist in the development of critical decision making traits that will help Students gain opportunities for success in the future.
This interactive curriculum palces the Student in a series of 'real life' video scenarios that will require him/her to make a decision that can have either a positive or negative outcome depending on the decision. It also shows the role and the influence that 'Bystanders' can play.
Critical 'Bystanders' attributes discussed as part of this Curriculum are:
- When bystanders do nothing or encourage a bully, the bully feels supported. This often leads to verbal or physical agression. These conflicts often end in a non-peaceful way. Bystanders can change the outcome of a situation.
- Bystanders who speak up for and support the victims often cause the bully to back down peacefully.
- Bystanders 'first and foremost' have the responsibility to keep themselves and others safe.
- A true leader will help resolve problems, care and think about everyone, and not manipulate a situation at the expense of others.
- Leaders have the desire to avoid unnecessary and harmful confrontations, they attempt to change the outcome of a scene. They are most impressive when they stay calm and tactfully let the agressor (bully) "save face".
- Bystanders can keep themselves from becoming victims by avoiding angry situations.
- Peer pressure is on of the most difficult problems for young people. One 'Bystander' can reverse peer pressure by supporting the person being pressured
